Joy
Show Notes:
Reading: Luke 2:22-35
Episode 2 of 3 as we journey through different elements of Christmas.
We can't really define joy or know joy if we haven't experienced the opposite of that. We look at the sense of joy through the eyes of Simeon who spent his whole life waiting and anticipating the savior... and finally as he is holding and looking into the eyes of a baby... who will become the savior of humanity and is filled... with Joy. Listen in as Andrew talks about Joy.

Hope
Show Notes:
Worship by Dennis Marinello
As we celebrate Christmas we take a commercial break from what we have been doing to explore different elements of Christmas. This is 1 of 3. Hope.
In Dante's Inferno there is a gateway that leads into hell. Inscribed on the gates is a saying, "abandon all hope, ye who enter here". The more that I work with people the more I have realized that humanity raises these gates over our lives or over certain areas of our life. Abandon all hope you who want to enter my past. Abandon all hope you who want to know me. Abandon all hope.
God steps into our chaos. God, the logos, steps into our reality (sarks). The fundamental reality of Christianity... is that God has not abandoned us. Our hope lies in God's presence with us in our chaos, in our indecision, in our incompleteness, in our flaws, because he is the God who lives up to His name, Im-manu-el. With. Us. God is. God is with us.

Out of Control
Show Notes:
Worship by: Michael McEachern
Readings by: Julia Price and Ashton Senner
The fundamental reality of church is that, just because you are a Christian or because you go to Church is not a guarantee that everything will be so fresh and so clean. There is an aspect to following Jesus that is gritty... and just because Jesus is in the boat with you doesn't mean that you are going to be safe.
It makes me sad to think that there are people all around us who would think to themselves, "I am not valuable", "my life isn't worth it..." and the church is usually too busy looking good, too busy worrying about our reputation. We can't believe in a Jesus that is about setting the world right if you, yourself, can't stand with the broken. The Church needs Jesus as much as the world.
As we look through the Gospel of Jesus... who is he being seen with? This is why I find the Gospel of Jesus so compelling... that he constantly is standing with the unclean... that he is constantly loving the unlovable... there is something about Jesus that would make a demon possessed man be set free... and there is something about Jesus... that can give a woman with an embarrassing sickness... to be made clean and set-free.
